We have them when ever we bring home fruit from the market. Be sure all your fruit gets put away in the fridge or some container. Then spray all your drains starting in your kitchen. They live in the drains if there is no other fruit out. I use Simple Green, it kills them. Spray EVERY drain in your house or they will migrate to another drain: showers, tubs, sinks, etc. I spray every one 4 or 5 spritzes, every day for a week. Then after they are gone do it once a week or how ever often you bring home new fruit. Simple Green is sold in Walmart in the auto/boat/camp area in concentrate and in concentrate or spray bottles in other home improvement stores such as Menards in the soap section. It disinfects and deodorizes as well. I use it for most my cleaning as it is non-toxic

The vinegar trap in the covered glass jar a cup has always worked for me.

    Per link below

“Get Rid of Fruitflies with a Homemade Fruit Fly Trap. Pour just enough cider vinegar to cover the bottom of the jar. Add a drop of dish soap (it will break the surface tension of the vinegar so the fruit flies can't just sit atop the liquid). Now, cover the jar with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the top.”

They seem to swarm around my bananas and this is very effective

Adding a photo, only one overnight casualty. Normally it’s more. I may try bagging our bananas.

Best wishes on your elimination efforts Rose!

Hi Rose. I fill a small bowl with apple cider vinegar. Then I add a few drops of dish soap and just a tad of water so the soap bubbles a little. Leave it on your counter and you should see them in the liquid.
