How do I stop finish from coming off of chair?

We have a chair that’s not real leather and I’ve noticed the arm of it’s starting to peel off. How would I stop this?

I had the same problem and the only thing to do is cover the area with some kind of slip cover to protect it.
Decaying vinyl upholstery is probably from exposure to contaminants, ranging from hand lotion to sunscreen to bug spray.
I’d clean it with 50/50 alcohol first and mild soap & water, if it won’t saturate the material backing.
Depending on how bad it is, it may be able to be patched with an automotive vinyl repair kit (auto parts stores) or you may have to re-cover it.
A sewing machine and Velcro would be useful for wrap around slip covers.
