Are you going over an old deck with the new Trek? It will keep rotting.

When you're ready to start fresh, brown pressure treated lumber sealed at cuts to prevent termites. Then trex deck over which has 25 yr warranty. No need to wait 6 months for pressure treated lumber underneath as supports. No more staining sanding splinters. Did mine in 2014. Used powder coated aluminum railing too. Lifetime warranty.

Trek is just a composite decking that requires minimal upkeep and last longer than wood. It does not "protect" anything. The treated wood underneath will rot over time.

My deck is actually timber tech not trex. One uses softwood sawdust inside the casing the other hardwood sawdust inside. I added a large patio cover also framed in brown pressure treated lumber like the retaining wall and deck frame. No staining required. Panels have foam layer inside 10 yr warranty Home Depot.
