How do I keep the joint compound from coming off in spots?

I'm attempting to texture my wall, then roll over it with an embossed roller to leave a pattern on the wall. I've seen this technique on See Jane Drill, on YouTube. I've thinned the compound twice with water, still it comes off when I drag my broadleaf roller over it. Help!

    Judy,

You can buy texture paint and it requires a special roller. Easy to do with the right product and roller!

try letting it sit for about 2 to 3 minutes then roll

You might try mixing in some plaster it makes it more workable and dries faster

Are you letting it dry before you roll over it? That could help or you might try rolling over it in one direction the whole length of the wall first before doing both directions. Sometimes you just have to baby certain projects a little first to get them started.

Thank you, that's a really good suggestion! I'll let you know how it turns out.
