How do I cover the outside of my bath tub?

My tub is old and ugly I want to use stone tile to cover the outside with stone look tile.. Problem is the surface of the tub wall is not smooth, but it it has a 1/2 in indentation it was was suppose suppose to be decorative I suppose.. The stone I want to use is narrow strips 3, 2,1inch long and 3/4 inch high.. Any ideas would be appreciated.. Thank you..

Sarah: can you install a layer of tile-backer board on the exterior of the tub?
I agree with Nan. Glue on some tile cement board to the tub for a smooth surface. You can use construction adhesive in a caulk tube. Liquid Nails would work. Locktite Power Grab is another.
You can find cement board at Home Depot, Lowes, or Menard's. If you tell he employees your plans hey can assist you and advise you.
