HI Fay,
I'm Linda and I found a wonderful slide show showing ideas for how to distress furniture from other Hometalk members! There are many ways using sandpaper, Vaseline, wooden blocks, layered painting, etc. Have fun looking all these different ideas and choose the method that will work for your project. :) Wishing you the best!

I’d suggest Dixie Belle paint in the color Cotton if you want a true white, or Drop Cloth if you want more of a cream color. If the current stain is quite dark, You may need to seal it first so the tannins don’t bleed through your white color. A great sealer is Dixie Belle BOSS. Then, to distress, use 220 grit sand paper around the edges and any pretty details. Here is one I did for a little inspiration:

I’m with the first suggestion. Annie Soan “Old White” means no primer or sanding and dries fast so a 1-day project. I just did a table, chairs and hutch. For more texture, use a basic crackle medium with a microfibre roller (to make the effect even). The wax is amazing but you could put a coat of varnish if it’s used a lot. Chalk paint lends itself to redis if you don’t like it. Check YouTube for MANY tutorials
That looks beautiful. Is chalk paint forgiving for slight damage. Will it cover well.
This is great, even the picture makes me think that this is the way to go. Thanks again Valerie.
