How do I use leftover duct insulation in some walls?

We have some left over duct insulation that I was told we could use in several spots where we had to tear out some interior walls including the old rock wool.vits just a small section of exterior cavities. I was told I should put the foil facing the exterior side of the wall. Is this correct? It doesn't sound right. I've used the Bubble wrap kind over insulation at my old house with great results. Thank you!

I've always understood that you face the shiny side to the heated space. If you live in a cold area, shiny side faces in. Leave a gap between the foil and whatever wallboard or panel you cover it with (if you cover it) - it reduces effectiveness otherwise.
