What kind of lubrication do I need for my fireplace damper?

My fireplace damper needs lubrication. Obviously WD40 will burn up and cause a fire in the chimney. What about graphite?

HyHeet GP Graphite Grease it is rated up to 550 degrees.

Check your local hardware or fireplace shop. Otherwise, a builder may be able you in the right direction. Check the web too.

Graphite shouldn’t burn...it’s what pencil lead is made from.

  I know that, thanks. That’s why I wrote that.
  Graphite that’s used to lubricate complicated locks is powdered and won’t stay on the damper, with all of the convection currents.
  
  Grease is petroleum distillates.
  So the HyHeet product is a proprietary blend of synthesized petroleum & graphite.
  I’ll find it somewhere.
