Dried orange slices are lovely to use in Christmas crafts and décor such as wreaths, table decorations and garlands. Although they are available in the shops to buy, they are super simple to make at home. Not only does it work out way cheaper making them yourself, they will also make your home smell divine while you do!

All you need to dry orange slices are the oranges themselves, a knife and something to dry them on that the air can circulate around.

How to Dry Orange Slices

For dried orange slices, simply slice up your fruit evenly (ours are between 5-10mm) and spread out on a drying rack.

It is useful to make holes in the slices now with a skewer if you plan to add string or a ribbon later, for example to hang on your tree or attach to a wreath.

Leave your oranges to dry in a warm place turning them occasionally. We have an Aga, so leave ours on top of that, but on top of a floor standing boiler or near a radiator works well too. The orange slices shown above took about 24hrs to dry out.

String on a ribbon to hang on the Christmas tree or add to garlands, wreaths, gift tags and table decorations paired with cinnamon sticks and pinecones for that natural festive vibe.

What are the brown star things in the middle of some of them? They turned out very nice. I made some last year that were dried in the oven and yours look much brighter so I’m excited to try your method! I just bought oranges to make them too!
