Would help if you could supply a picture of porch. Is there a railing, porch roof, is it metal or wooden.
I would suggest the same with the plastic sheeting and a tip to help with that is to use some wood. If you want to keep the plastic edges from being torn in the wind, we use a piece of 2x2 to roll it onto a couple of times and staple into the wood. Since we have a porch outside it works well for us.
We also double it to help it be stronger against wind. Don’t cheap out on thin plastic because it won’t last in my opinion.

A painters tarp would look nicer and hold up better than plastic. Make a wood frame on the sides you can attach to porch structure and secure with clamps.
