Do a test first, several people complained it wasn't durable and water messed it up. Sorry I don't know name, I won't use it as my finish coat.

  • Hi Maxine, I can't tell you how to use milk paint but I can tell you how to paint your table top with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint! :)

It is super easy to paint your table top with Dixie Belle.

Step one: Clean with White Lightning

Step two: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint

Step three: Use Gator Hide for a water resistant finish, or choose from one of our many top coats and waxes!

We also feature an Easy Peasy Spray Wax that is incredibly simple to use; just spray on and rub in!

You can use Miss Mustard Seed Clear wax over milk paint. MMS has a well known line of milk paint that gives furniture a shabby chippy look.

Be aware that wax is not the most protective option of you intend to seal a table top that will be regularly used for meals, work, etc.

A better option would be water-based poly, made by several brands. My favorite is General Finishes.

  • I've had the best luck on tabletops with Minwax polycrylic. It's water based, easy to use, and dries well. And it is protective.

But I do like Daddy Van's waxes if you're sold on using wax. The lavender scented one is my favorite.

Here's a set of end tables I used both Old Fashioned Milk Paint & Daddy Vans on- https://www.justalittlecreativity.com/2016/07/farmhouse-style-end-tables.html
