Does anyone have any tips for containing glitter?

My grandkids and I are going to be doing a project using glitter. I'm looking for tips on how to contain it. I plan to put down an old plastic tablecloth and use a cheap disposable aluminum roasting pan to help contain it, but what about after it's glued on? The glitter will be sprinkled on pine cones. Any suggests will be appreciated.

Use a a spray on glue if possible, unless you are just doing the tips. Shake the container of glitter over the pinecones, making sure they are in the roasting pan. Then when the glue is dry, shake off the glitter into the pan, Bend a corner and pour the excess glitter back into the container. I'd put the glitter into shakers first to help contain it and I'd also use disposable pie pans as they are easier to bend and control to pour the glitter back into the container. Glitter comes off plastic better than cloth, so how about using a cheap plastic tablecloth instead?

Thanks 2dogal, I should have mentioned that the tablecloth is plastic and the aluminum pan is a disposable one. I am planning on spray glue. Do you think just shaking it off will stop the little flecks of glitter for coming off?

  • Ha! I was going to suggest any of the dollar store aluminum or plastic pans or containers. Once completed and setting out to dry, I would still use some sort of box or plate or tray to rest them in until the glue is dry. When dry, you can spray with hair spray or one of the commercial glitter setting products from any craft or hobby store. Yeah, glitter, you will be washing out of your hair and vacuuming up at July 4th holiday . . . Just like real Christmas tree needles, they hide and jump out 2 seconds before fancy company arrives . . . 🦃🎄

    • There you go! I have lots of duct tape too, you never know! I get a bunch of freebies, a popular vendor gift for office workers. I, too, have them in both cars, home and work. There are 11 pets in my house, plus the next door neighbors 3 dogs and sometimes my ex hubby's 3 dogs + any visiting pets, my friends call my house the Dog Park. There is always something that needs to be defurred . . . I stopped wearing solid color clothes . . . 😁 Fun times.

Naomie's idea of using hair spray or a commercial glitter setting spray is perfect after the glue dries. It will keep much of the glitter from coming off. Have fun with the grands.
