How do I replace a heater door that measures 20 x 60?

It is a solid door with no vent grid. The vent is below the door. I have searched for a replacement but this size door is very expensive and has to be special ordered. Can I replace the the skin of the door?

Where did you search? Have you tried amazon.com?

  • What is wrong with the current door that requires replacement?

The door knob has been replaced so many times too many screw holes to hold a knob on now. The door knob is a Decorative Knob which doesn't open on one side. If it wasn't for that reason I would use the same door. I looked at Home Depot and Lowe's for a replacement which can be ordered for $$$

    Vikki,

Is there a reason you can't fill the existing holes or repair the area with an epoxy wood filler? You could try repairing just that area and then reinstall the knob or handle with another one.

Thank you Seth but yes I have filled the old holes with a wood filler. Opening the door the handle pulls out of the filled holes. I have also tried the match stick repair, no luck.

    Vikki,

You might be using the wrong material. Regular wood filler will fail as you have described. You need a two part epoxy filler that you mix as you use it. It will harden quickly and be harder than the original wood.

Okay I will try that. Thank you.
