DIY Basket Pendent Light

Pendant lights add a lot of interest to a space. A basket pendent light is a great way to add texture as well. Baskets are really on trend! You can purchase baskets online or look for them in thrift stores for a better deal.

You will need a basket and a light kit for this project. You can use any basket, just be sure that the height is such that it will not bonk you on the head if you hang it from the ceiling, plus a few inches for the clearance of the light kit.

Use a pair of scissors or a drill bit to poke a small hole in between the weave of the basket. Fit the wires of the light kit through this hole with the raw end sticking out the bottom of the basket, as pictured.

This is the light kit that I used.

Pull the wires all of the way through until the light kit is secure in the basket. You might need to trim your wires, depending on how far you want the pendant to hang down.

Now you will need to install the light. Changing out a light fixture is not hard. The most important step is to cut power to the space - not the switch, you need to flip the breaker! Please watch a YouTube video if you have never changed a light fixture before for guidance on what to do.

Enjoy your new basket pendant light! I suggest adding some other basket-like textures to your space to make the basket pendant light really flow.

Although the project is attractive, it is definitely a fire hazard. Please rethink it and save yourself & loved ones from a disaster.

I believe if the basket is wide and the bulb is low wattage, then it will be just fine. I just might do this in my dinning room. 😉😊
