How to stabilize a cement block foundation?

How can I stabilize my foundation without paying a company an arm and a leg to do it (about $12,000)? It is a 1956 brick house with a cement block basement. I am getting some vertical cracks in the corners and a slight bow about 3 feet down across a 30 foot wall.

This is not a homeowner DIY, you need a structural engineer and maybe even a soils expert to see if the ground is stable enough. There could be drainage issues that might be contributing to this issue. Here is how to hire a contractor.
