How do I get rid of small black flies?

I have small black flies in my house. When smashed the turn to powder. I think they are drain flies. How do I get rid of them. This is a new occurance.

What a nuisance these are! They live and breed in just what their name implies, drains. You first have to thoroughly clean the drain assembly in each of your sinks to be sure you're not providing them a place to thrive. To be thorough, drain stopper should be removed and pipes cleaned with bleach and a bottle brush. This may not be a one time process. If it appears the infestation is limited to on sink, or one room, you may try covering the drain opening with wide tape, such as packaging tape or duct tape, to try to snag them on the adhesive, this again, is not a one time process, repeated application would be necessary.
