Hi. It's too late in the season for zone 9 second planting so start in early spring after the last frost of the season. Happy Gardening!

  • Early spring is best!

  • In the spring. If you want tomatoes for a longer period of time, stagger your planting time. Plant some in early spring, then in June and you might even squeeze in a third run if you plant August. That way you can have tomatoes into November. I am also in Zone 9 but in hot and extremely dry Southern California. Where I live, mine go dormant during the summer due to extreme heat. Yours should do better as you have higher humidity. I am pulling the last of my tomatoes this week, ripe or green.

See when the nurseries are selling them. That's the best indicator.

We have 2 season in Florida. September is when I put my winter tomato in. April's usually my spring planting.
