Early spring is best since it promotes new growth
I pruned mine in fall like the directions said. Next spring it looked dead & we almost ripped it out, but did leave it & the following year it came back. This fall we had a shoot come up in another area. We gave the big plant away & kept the new shoot. They are very invasive so I am sure it will grow next year.
