How do I secure my chimney from rodents and birds?

    i am guessing you are referring to the top of the chimney, out side, on the roof???? Either you or hired help, secure a screen on top and sides on the chimney, small enough screen holes to allow smoke out but not large enough critters in.

      Thanks Larry. You are right. I am referring to the chimney on the roof, outside. I put a chimney topper on the chimney last year and thought I had secured it. However, when I turned the heat on recently, I am smelling something like burning feathers. It's pretty funky. I have opened the furnace, but don't see anything, yet the funk continues. I have turned off the furnace until I can figure it out.

    We had a top mount damper installed. If you use a screen, you have to make sure no leaves or debris is on top that will catch fire when you use it.
