What is the fibre content of the coat fabric? Is it clean? I am curious as to why you would want to do this..... Do you have the fabric already, or are to thinking about purchasing coat fabric?
Because polar fleece is a thicker fabric, it will provide some insulation if used as curtain material. However, it will also depend on how new your glass is, and how air-tight your windows are, and if you can still feel cold air coming in through them. The problem with using fabric this thick though will be that it is not suitable for gathering. If you want to slide the 'curtains' open and closed by moving the rod pocket along the curtain rod, it will be very difficult to do so, as the fabric does not fold or compact well.
However, polar fleece does not fray or need the edges bound to any great extent and is easy to sew up. So if you were not using the fabric for anything else, there would be no great loss in time in trying to sew one up to see how it might work for your window.

Specifically, what fabric are you referencing? Are you attempting to cut up old coats to make curtains?
Unless you are an experienced seam stress - it is easier to pick some up at a thrift store for under $5.00.

If you’re buying it by the yard it will be very expensive and thick to sew through.
Using old coats will be quite fun.
Yiur question is how to sew with coats.
Measure your window. Most curtains are 2-3 times the width for fullness in a window. But you may want less. You need to decide that.
If you need a pattern to make straight lines, I’d suggest news paper or if you have large drawing paper to tape together.
All you need is to hem 3 sides and the top is folded over with a pocket for the rod.

Well, it's all just fabric. If you gather the curtains you might not need the yardage you'd need for thinner fabric.
