How do I update my bathroom on a budget?

Peel and stick tiles need a flat surface to stick to. Why not paint the tile? This site explains painting ceramic tile in more detail.

Never ever paint wallpaper. Period. End of story. Old is just a number - to be proud of. Yes you can remove the wallpaper.

Removing tile just requires a hammer, chisel and eye protection. You can do this yourself. It makes a mess but what renovation doesn't?

If you have to, you can paint the tile, just know that it will eventually peel.

I too have an old blue bathroom! You can definitely paint over wallpaper if it isn’t peeling and you don’t mind a little texture showing through. Perhaps you could hire a handyman to install bead board paneling over it as another option.

Agree with Naomie to never paint over wallpaper. Just because it is 'possible' to do this, it doesn't mean that it is the right. The value of your home will not be increased if any of the work in the project is not completed correctly.

If you are still unconvinced, read through some of the questions posted here on Hometalk from others who are now faced with the huge problem of having to remove painted wallpaper.
