We had an old privacy fence that we took down on sections which we stuck outside behind our barn. It was there for a couple years. Then we got the great idea to re use the wood to recover a bookcase that was built onto wall. We took each section to our garage to let them dry out and cure. If you don’t do that for a couple weeks, the wood will shrink on wall leaving gaps. We then used hammer claw end and a flat bar to remove all the nails and pry from cross bars. Then went through them all picking out the ones with most character. After that it was just measuring and stapling to wall after you paint wall same color as wood, so wall doesn’t show in between boards.
