I would like to know what to use in the wash/dryer other than fabric softener sheets which have not worked to get rid of the "funky" smell in the towels.

  • Use a cup of white vinegar the next time you wash them. This should help

If you're not worried about using bleach, that normally does that for me once every couple of months. If you don't like the smell of bleach (only 1/4 cup in the full tub of towels) a scoop of borax works great. And it's odourless. Works great for all smelly clothes.

Chlorox. Always hang damp towels to dry after bathing. I also use white vinegar in the water softener cup which acts as a water softener.

Your washer gaskets and detergent/fabric softener compartments need checked for dampness, water, and black slime build up. This is common in front loaders, where washer doors and detergent/fabric softener compartment should always be left open when not in use.

  • Skip the fabric softener.

Wash with low suds detergent and vinegar instead.

Wash in hottest water you can , fry 20 minutes longer in dryer to make 100% sure it is really dry. Issue is, they feel fry but put away with some dampness which makes them smell. Been doing this and it really worked!
