Whilst visiting some stylish Scandinavian interiors stores with my friend we spotted some lovely simple Christmas trees. The Christmas trees were a bit beyond our budget and not quite the dimensions that we wanted. We loved the simplicity of these trees like my very popular rustic lampshade wire tree.

We went home and made our own version of these simple Scandinavian Christmas trees. The great thing about these trees are that they are easy to assemble, disassemble and store. They can be enjoyed for many more Christmases to come.

All you need for this tree is one central wooden pole about 3.5cm in diameter. The pole needs to be as long as you want your tree high. We used a pole about 5ft in height.

You will also need about 10 x 2.4meter wooden dowels that are 9mm in diameter.

The first thing we did was measure and mark the pole at 10 cm intervals about 30 cm from the end. We then drilled holes at these points using a 10mm drill bit.

You may want to drill small pilot holes first to stop the wood from splitting.

Next you will then want to turn the pole a third turn and mark more holes. These are also 10cm apart but staggered 3 cm above the original holes. Then turn the pole another third turn and mark more holes 10cm and staggered 3cm again. I know this sounds very confusing but if you look at the picture below you will understand what I am saying!

(Don't forget there are more tips on the blog post at the end too!)

Before fixing the pole into the base we sanded away any splinters from the drilling.

So that the pole would stand we set in an old Christmas Panettone tin in Plaster of Paris (see here).

To keep the pole upright while the plaster set we wedged it in a table. I have also used to chairs in the pas to do this.

Next, you will need to cut the wooden dowels in decreasing lengths (see blog). The length of the dowels depends on how wide you want your tree to be. That is the beauty of this tree you can make it so that it fits the space you want to put it in.

For this tree the longest dowel we used was 80cm.

To assemble the tree, simply slot the wooden dowels into the holes. Start from the bottom of the pole with the longest dowels. Decreasing in size as you move up the pole.

We drilled a hole in the top of the pole for a topper.

The tree is now ready to decorate. It's a great tree to show off your ornaments.
