I have tried many of the suggested solutions over the years and have found, for me, the best resolution was to use Clorox Toilet Bowl cleaner. It is a gel. I squeeze some into the corners of four tile and then spread with an old toothbrush. Let sit for a while (10 minutes) and then use the brush once more to loosen any dirt. Then I use a sponge dipped in warm water and vinegar to remove the soap residue from the cleaner. After that I steam mop and I have been very happy with the results.

Elaine, this isnis common issue and one I’ve had to tackle.

First I used a grout cleaner but it didn’t work great. So, I tried peroxide. It’s amazing with a tooth brush.

Once done I rinsed with clear water and dried it and resealed with the commercial grout sealer to keep it good looking.

    Happy cleaning!

I Clean Tile and grout for a living, the BEST way is to use a Acid based Cleaner, I use THE WORKS , toilet bowl cleaner, Full Strength. Pour it onto Floor, let it sit for 5 -10 minutes, and use a Course Scrub Pad and Scrub it with my foot, because the Fumes are strong, and then use a Mop to pick it up & Rinse.

Hi Elaine, you can make a thin paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Apply it to the grout and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse clean. If the grout between the tiles has worn down too far, it may be a better idea to first re-grout and then seal. You can also buy grout pens to quickly “recolor” your grout and make them look new again.
