How can I update my wainscot walls?
Can I do anything about my wainscot. I love the look but the previous owners really didn't care for them. Some parts have been painted over and some loose ledge rails. Sanding would take a life time. I would like to see them in a lighter color with not so much labor. Any suggestions.

Take the time to repair and loose parts. Then you can prime and paint. Taping off will take the most amount of time. Nothing spectacular is easy. Updates require at least some effort.
Or just hire someone to do for you.
Hi Angela, fix up the loose stuff, make sure they are nice and clean, then paint with Chalk paint, it will look wonderful, choose a color that compliments your decor but remain neutral if you do change color schemes, maybe like a nice light gray.
Angela: Definitely attach loose ledge edges! It's an easy job... just nail, counter-sink, and fill the holes with a (very) little wood putty. Then sand those tiny areas a bit. I've primed/painted my wainscoting -- was dark wood... now cream colored. I love it! (Keep a bit of paint in a jar -- to quickly "patch" any scratches or chips.
Hello Angela! There are many great ideas for this. Good luck in what you are attempting to do.
