Forgetting To Declutter Your Pot Holders

Can you believe I am going to talk about decluttering POT HOLDERS?
Yes, I am because let's be honest: when was the last time you thought about decluttering them? Do you have a drawer so full of pot holders that you can't even close it? Does your drawer jam because too many are shoved in the way back, unused?
I used to be able to answer those questions with a big fat YES! Then I realized how pathetic it was to have as many pot holders as I did. I had one drawer for almost JUST pot holders! Yikes!

Well, maybe that is you - having one drawer for just pot holders. I decided that I NEVER have as many hot dishes that are needing protection from the table as I have pot holders. That is when I decided I needed to declutter.

It is as simple as this:

1. Take all of your pot holders out - of all sizes.

2. Figure out what the greatest number of pot holders you have used at ONE time is. Add 1 or 2.

3. Get rid of all of those that are broken and useless.
4. Choose your favorites.

5. Get rid of the REST. Each and every one of them. Don't save them because you MIGHT use it - trust me, you won't.

If all of a sudden you run into the problem of needing more, just use a kitchen towel. It is as simple as that. Now, your drawer opens and closes like it never has before and you are not hanging onto items that you never use.

Here is what my pot holder drawer looks like - I can fit all of my food packaging items AND pot holders all in one drawer and I LOVE IT!

I have three pot holder gloves we use every day, and I make myself throw out a burned grubby one before I get a new one. I have a very padded table runner to put hot dishes on at the table, but we use the stovetop and ceramic squares for buffet serving. I have lots of clean stained dish clothes because my husband wipes his coffee fixings and spills with them every day. But hidden in the back of the drawer are several brand new dish clothes and dish towels I pull out when company is coming. It's hard to pull the old out of rotation and into the cleaning rag bag because my husband keeps finding them, but I need to try harder. When I declare his soft underwear to be cleaning rags, I cut off the collars, sleeves, straps and waistbands so they can't be worn again! And I definitely trash a well-used oily rag rather than wash them in the washing machine.

Don't forget to toss 2 potholders into the camp kitchen gear. When they get gross.. toss them.
