Have you added vermiculite to the pots? It greatly increases water retention, so you can go longer between watering.
Depending on how long you will be gone, you can fill wine or other large bottles with water and invert in the plant. I use a couple of glass Coke bottles to water mine when I'm gone for a week or so.
Put them in the bathtub with a couple of inches of water.

It won't help you now but there are additives to add to soil to lessen watering. Works well for plants that aren't cacti or succulents. If you travel much you might want to add this kind of product when you repot.
