How can I keep wood steps from icing and being dangerous?

    Hi Karen. You can put sand on them for traction. If you don't want to use sand you can purchase pet friendly ice melt too.

      Sand is a great quick solution. I've not heard of pet friendly ice melt but will look for some. Thank you for responding!

    They make rubber decorative stair treads that add traction. Some are beautifully cut in designs. Tack on to the wood in the corners and middle. A company called Improvements carries some examples.

  • Is there an eave that is dripping on the steps? If so a gutter should fix that. Or even a rain diverter that would mount on the roof and cause the water/drips to go around that area.
