How can I uplift the entire mood of my dark interior?

Oh the parrots need to go on a mini vacation! I have a hand me down canary from someone that has passed on. Not my first bird, but that's what I have now, plus a dragon, 6 cats, 3 dogs, neighbors 3 dogs and on occasion my ex hubsters 3 dogs. And my house is small too, not a lovely turn of the century Victorian. Painting at my house will be a major upheaval to relocate the menagerie. Birds are super susceptible to chemical odors and can become ill very quickly. Wish I was your neighbor, I would be happy to parrot sit so you can paint. Even low voc paints can be too much for them so when you get to that phase of renovation - yes, please chat with your vet and make the necessary arrangements. Do you have someone that can take them for a few days here and there? Are you friends with any of the neighbors?

Side bird story: my girlfriend was moving from West LA, CA to Asheville, NC (I think this was in 2003) and her husband flew with their cat ahead to get their rental house ready (he had been back and forth several times and already driven his car there), and we had to road trip it in her car with her canary Tweetie Pie Girl. It was a hoot! We put a mirror in her cage and she endured the crappy interstate 10 all the way to New Orleans (Yes a bit out of the way, but hey, this was partly our vacation and a Thelma and Louise type adventure . . . ) We were in Louisiana somewhere and opened the door of the hotel (it was May), and the humidity hit us like a brick wall. The makeup slid right off our faces into a pile of goo and our crisp freshly ironed outfits a crumpled mess and perfectly coiffed hair now a frizzy finger in the light socket look, sticking to the sweat running down our faces and necks. Oh so pretty, but we forged on. Off to NOLA French Quarter, we went and Tweetie girl singing all the way. When we arrived, we couldn't just leave her in the car so I put her cage on a luggage carrier and wheeled her around with us. Spectacles we were, drink in hand, sloppy, sweaty but happy with bird in tow. Found a place to eat outside in the shade. We made it to Meridian, Mississippi that night. Yes her hubby was hopping mad, but oh well, he got over it. That's another story for another time. We made it to Asheville in 5 days with as many side trips as I could squish in 5 days and Tweetie Girl was a fabulous road trip girl, 2,857 miles (I logged my miles every day), and lived a good long life after her arrival. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Thanks for reading! 🐦

My macaw has his own car seat,but my African grey is ornery and won’t let anyone handle her! My cockatoo is a snuggle bunny but hasn’t had a road trip yet. Every single one of my birds have been adopted by me because they were unwanted and badly cared for. The Macaw I have had the longest. He is 19 years old. If I wait until the summer I can roll their cages out into my garage and just hang out with them. Or excuse me have someone hang out with them while I paint LOL. There are indeed zero VOC paints that I have looked into for when the time comes

Just a suggestion from a former SoCal girl who lives in a 104 yr old farmhouse now, in Missouri (and loving every minure of it!)...you should go check out your local ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) and see what what incredible things they have for your home...for pennies on the dollar!

Get creative! The ReStore also sells quality Re-created new paint!

They sell trim, wood pieces of all types...you name it and they probably have it...if not when you're there then at a future time (or at another ReStore)

Paint is your friend sometimes (or even a touch of wallpaper, in an old home.....Also check out thrift stores for odds & ends (garage sales too....never know what kind of materials you may find!)
