Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

Are you sure they are veneer? Usually they are solid wood. Are you asking about laminate?

You need to talk to a paint store rep, not a home depot style store. The a door with you and get their recommendations. They will help you. Different areas have different products.
