Hi Donna, Thanks for posting this question! I also would like some answers on this. My fireplace looks very similar to yours but without the tile and my floors are dark walnut. I'm thinking of adding some colorful concrete tile around it and adding peel n stick wallpaper up to the ceiling to make this the focal point of my room.

I would paint the mantel and surround a color that is midway between the light tiles and the dark insert. Then I would stencil the white tiles a color that works with all of the other colors. Keep the stencil design simple and let the colors become the point of interest.

Sorry, decorating would also change the look of you didn’t wan to do a renovation. Add greenery, candles, items on the hearth area. If you don’t use it you could add a painted screen that stands on the hearth in front. Your style would dictate what decor you use.

I would start with that before a remodel.

You could stencil the tiles. That would add just enough without being over whelming.

Mine is very similar. I hope to stencil the tiles with a Spanish design in black. The fireplace is a dark wood as is the flooring, walls are a blue-gray. I want to paint the wood white. Since yours is already white, maybe leaving the design part of the stencil white and painting the background of the tile black would be striking.

I would not mess with the tiles. If you ever sell, your taste and the new owners might not be the same. I would however take some paint to the wood around the fireplace. Go with a striking colour that goes with your decor. Any new owner can repaint. Not sure what is above your mantel but add an interesting piece of art work. Easy, cheap and done.

You could get pieces of marble or other stone cut to size, and use masonry glue and attach over existing tiles. Or even wood.

I just purchased some stick on mother of pearl tiles from Amazon. Cut to any size and lots of choices and styles. Also Lowes and Home Depot have a brick a half brick or stone overlay. Really pretty.
