Patina Ornaments
Did you know that you can take wood and make it look like metal that has a beautiful patina finish? Well, you can and it's easy when you use the right products.
For this project, I started with wooden ornaments.
I painted the ornaments with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint. I used the color Barn Red, but it doesn't matter what color you use because it won't show in the end.
Once the paint was dry, I gathered my patina paints and sprays. There are three finishes... bronze, copper, and iron.
I gave each ornament a coat of the patina paint and let it dry. The paint needs to be shaken well to distribute the fine metal particles that it has in it. The metal particles will react with the spray to create the patina.
Once the first coat was dry, I added a second coat of the patina paint. While the second coat was still wet, I sprayed the ornaments with the patina spray. It can take up to six hours for the reaction of the paint with the spray to be complete. However, it only takes about 30 minutes of painting and spraying time. Just set the project aside and let it work its magic.
Once the process was complete, I added a little embellishment to each ornament.
Now my wooden ornaments look like metal!
