How do I keep my driveway clear of ice and snow that is eco-friendly?

Salt, rubbing alcohol, or windshield washer fluid. You can make your own windshield washer fluid by mixing rubbing alcohol with water (equal parts).

Some people install heaters like the floor heaters they build in houses in the cold parts of the country. Other than that, we apply CLAY cat litter to get rid of the ice and snow. The dark clay attracts the heat of the sunshine and it literally melts it away. It helps to keep a firm footing in the ice also. We go through several large bags of clay cat litter every winter. There are eco friendlier sidewalk salts out there. Also, pet friendly will be more eco friendly, too. An ice scraper/chopper helps if you get ice buildup. Snow you will need to use a shovel or snow blower to clear, nothing, unless you install some kind of heater under the driveway will prevent snow from accumulating. There is a spray that you can put on the driveway surface that will help melt it if applied before it snows, but if you get a lot of snow it may not work that well. We try to put sidewalk salt down before a big snow, it seems to help some, if you get an inch, but it does keep things melting underneath to make getting rid of the snow easier without getting ice underneath the snow.
