May I ask why? Is there some sort of activity that this needs to be done? Double sided tape might work. Thumb tacks or push pins would work and leave teeny tiny holes that are easily repaired.
I'm confused. If this is just for a decoration I'd get some or those removable poster holders. The kind you just pull the tab on to remove. These things will (I know the advertising says it won't) if they are left on a wall for a long time and the wall has old paint take chips of paint off. If it's for a short period of time it's totally safe. Other wise I'm not sure why you are putting a table cloth on a wall "properly". I do save them for drop cloths.
Is it just for a party? We usually find low tack painters tape holds that sort of weight thing up well for a day. :)
Like the others, I wonder why.
How one would hang such a thing depends on the surface, and whether or not there will be any stress placed on it.
What are you hoping to achieve by doing this?
