How do I insulate the ceiling of my add on den?

    It will depend on the construction of the structure. Can you access the area between the ceiling and roof? If so, you should put a moisture barrier on the roof decking underside then add traditional fiberglass insulation as well as between the rafters above the ceiling.


    Another option is to have spray on insulation installed. I am looking into do that with our farmhouse on the ceiling, floors, and walls.

    Do not use a moisture barrier on the roof rafters. It will trap moisture between the rafters and roof deck. Eventually rot and mold can form. Fiberglass batt insulation will work in between the joists if you have access. If you don't have access you can blow insulation. All you need to do is cut a holes for the hose in the ceiling and blow insulation in the cavities. Once filled patch the holes.

    Hi! We used unfaced batt insulation to insulate our addition ceiling. Hopefully you have access. If you don't, I agree with William regarding blow in insulation (or foam if you'd rather).
