White, only on the Wood. But as it is a Beautiful Home as is, maybd rather than Painting the Entire, you only need a Break, a small vacation to a Place that will make you more appreciate Home. Like visiting a Slum in New Jersey, and spending 1 day in a Hotel with Roaches.

It depends on what "look" you desire. Here are a few options:

Leave the wood but paint doors and windows a co-ordinating color (like Navy) and add shutters in the same accent color.

Leave accent colors brown and lighten the wood color to a beige, perhaps with a rosy undertone.

If you are going to paint everything (brick included), grey or a greige tone seem to be the way to go. Then accent with a pop of color on the front door.

    • Ok, then keep it neutral. How about a chocolate brown or even a smidge darker, like semi sweet chocolate chips. Will stand out from the boring beiges and over done grays, yet still be neutral enough to fit the surroundings which appear to be quite lovely. Give the front door a pop of color, or go light so it can easily be found.

3 shades of pale greens: 1(lightest) on door, another(next lightest to lighten inside porch) on trim and around inside door area/porch,another(darker) on rest of wood. It'll look good with brick & surrounding trees in yard.

I do like your point though - about painting the porch a lighter color. It has always seemed drab to me.

The brick is very similar to a house we once owned. I LOVED the wood in a rich dark brown. The new owners have painted it beige and I think it gives it a cheap, lackluster appearance to the brick. I like the idea of painting the door with a bright pop of color and decorate the porch... maybe a bench with flowers pots and seasonal decorations with lots of eye catching color.

Gray is a very popular color for home exteriors and would pickup the tones of your brick's grout.

Thank you all for your responses! I should add that we are putting a new roof on this week. The roof colors will be black at first glance, but with red and blue undertones.

Although I think dark brown would be lovely on the house itself, I'm not so sure about dark brown with a black (& red/blue) roof. What color were you considering for the house when you chose the roof color?

i'm not sure from the photo ... does the line of the upper wood siding run straight across ? Or, does it dip near the driveway ? If it isn't straight, and you paint the upper and lower wood different colors, it might jump out of you too much.

Is there a beam going across the front entrance ? I would play that up and add fake cedar beams or posts on the front to give it more of a porch entry. Paint the wood there a light warm grey. The cedar will age and patina beautifully with the brick.

Leave the all the trim brown and paint the boards cream. I can't see your front door, but I would paint it brown like the trim, only maybe you could invest in an updated front door that lets more light in and again, is an updated style. I staged many homes in my career and front doors are part of the curb appeal. Leave the house colors neutral, but LIGHT is important .
