How to Make a Brown Bag Christmas Tree Skirt

Nordic design works so well for Christmas decor, because it’s the polar opposite of the holiday season. It’s simple, clean, and effortless, while in reality most of our lives are chaotic, messy, and exhausting. That's why I decided to give this style a go for my mini Christmas tree skirt.

Charming mini Christmas tree skirts

These brown bag tree collars give off a relaxed Nordic vibe and will work well past the holidays through the entire winter season!

Brown paper bags make great mini Christmas tree skirts

Materials

  • Brown bags (lunch bags for small size, gift bags for larger size)
  • Scissors
  • Black craft paint
  • Round foam daubers
  • Mini trees
  • Wooden beads
  • Thin ribbon

Depending on the size of your mini trees, trim your bags down to size. Cut them 2-3 inches taller than you want them to end up, because you’ll be folding the edge over. If you’re using craft gift bags, make sure you fully remove the handles.

These work great for cute mini Christmas trees

How to Make a Christmas Tree Skirt Pattern

Use black craft paint and foam daubers to add a simple dot pattern to all four sides of your bags. You could also free hand some simple X’s or triangle patterns - the idea is just to keep it simple and minimalist in design. Allow the paint to dry.

Once fully dry, use your hands to crinkle your bag up a bit - this gives them texture and a more warn, authentic look. Then, fold down the top 2-3 inches of the bag, carefully folding at the corners, so they don’t rip.

Aren't these little wooden ball ornaments the perfect simple addition?

Pop in your mini tree and add some faux snow around the base. For our ornaments, we simply strung wood beads on thin, grosgrain ribbon - simple and cute.

There you have it! Adorable Christmas tree skirts ready to impress your guests!

Just like that you’ve got some solid Nordic holiday decor - now if only the holidays were this simple!
