How can I make my laundry room brighter?

My laundry room is 5' X 7', and has only 2 sockets. One is a 220 for a dryer, that I don't use. The other has only one receptacle and that is for the washer. The overhead light with a globe is too far back and to the side of my washer. This makes it difficult to see inside the front loader and my clothes. I do not feel it safe to add an extension where the washer is plugged in. Even if that was OK I would have a fixture to hang somewhere. Any suggestions to see better in my laundry room?

    Solar tube or skylight.

    Ginny,

It depends on how comfortable you are doing some basic wiring or if you want to pay an electrician. First, all hardware stores sell some version of a battery powered light that you easily attach to the ceiling, but you would obviously have to replace the batteries from time to time. That would be an easy and quick solution. If your washer in not on a 220/240 line, you could add an outlet to hang a plug-in light fixture, which would be safe. You could also run a wire from your existing ceiling fixture to a spot where you want another fixture, cut a hole in the ceiling, install a junction box, and then install the fixture. If that seems too daunting, then you should probably hire an electrician. Sorry to not be more helpful. Maybe someone else will have a brilliant idea.

I agree solar tubes are great. Another option is to replace the globe light with track lighting. That way you can angle the lights where you need them.

I saw this on Amazon and thought somebody could definitely use this to add more light to a room. Would this work for you? ... https://www.amazon.com/JACKYLED-Splitter-Converter-Standard-Adjustable/dp/B01DVUDC5U/ref=pd_ybh_a_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9YB5043Q6BS04RWJRS5Y

    Replace the existing light.

I agree with William. Just install a different light. A nice bright LED would give off more lumens while still only having one fixture
