What is causing them to crumble? Is there a baseboard?

It's 1832 red brick floors that are carpeted and the walls are clay so the finishes are not great. The floor and walls are not even so wood trim won't work as it is not flexible enough need a false type skirting that is sort of flexible

Hi, Lorna! You don’t say what kind of flooring you have, but it sounds as if you need baseboard. You can buy it at any home improvement store in various heights, painted or unpainted. If you need more width, you just buy quarter round strips. They go in front of the baseboard and really look like expensive trim. You will need a sturdy stapler or hammer and finishing nails. Then it is IMPORTANT that you caulk along the bottom edge so there are no gaps. Then paint or touch up paint. Your crumby floor edges will look high class. Best wishes, ☺️

I have seen flexible base boards (skirting) used in bathrooms...would something like that work? I don't know what it is called but is about 4 inches tall with a cove at the bottom....I have seen brown or black and it can be painted. I think it is some sort of rubber or plastic...plastic I think.
