  • They are marking their territory. 2 male cats in the same space, it is gonna happen. Each one tries to cover the other cats scent. Are they neutered? Why are they in the garage? Is the garage heated?

    • Oh good that makes me feel better. So good of you to care for them. I have 6 rescues that someone just dumped a few years back. All have some sort of issues and would not make good family pets so I kept them, albeit illegally. They all have licenses and my next door neighbor "owns" 3 of them on paper only. Since one is new it will lessen in frequency as they learn to live together. You will just have to ride it out or rehome the newer cat. Just about all of my previous cats made it to 20 or more.

Even neutering may not stop this habit. You may need to make a choice between your cats as to which one stays and which gets a new home.

That would be a hard choice for me. .the one is 11 years old. .I think the white one is about 3. .he came here neutered and declare .advertising never found his owners. .he was so skinny and cold. .cost me a vet bill .only been here about a week. .went yesterday and bought two litters pans. .see if that helps. .we know it is the white one caught him a couple times getting ready to spray the garage broom. .thanks for replying. .Merry Christmas. .

Cats spray for many different reasons(sickness, stress, territorial, breeding) but he's likely started because of stress due to other cats invading his space.Do they have outside access? Are they stuck in garage? Are they neutered/spayed. Only thing that works is THIS https://www.bonanza.com/listings/Pet-Odor-Remover-Stinkers-Odor-Remover-Kills-Odors-Fast-Forever/361143373?goog_pla=1&gpid=76984043821&keyword=&goog_pla=1&pos=1o5&ad_type=pla&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-v3l2rTQ3gIVFNVkCh3hrwoeEAQYBSABEgJ1kvD_BwE go to janitorial supply in area & get commercial grade odor neutralizer( nothing over counter-pet smart-mothers nature miracle-vinegar) will work. Throw out everything they have peed on if you can it's ruined and start spraying with neutralizers. get some Feliway Multi-cat( not Feliway-synthetic )pheromones that "might" help(not the collars), it provides pheromones from cats so they don't feel need to spray theirs everywhere.

Try neutering as a first step. There are many organizations that do it for low costs or free if that's an issue. There are calming diffusers that plug into the wall too. I don't have male cats but it significantly helped our fussing cats. I believe there are also sprays. It is very thoughtful and kind of you to care for a stray.

Sorry you are having problems with cats spraying. You can trap neuter and release back and that will help. Spraying is more in non neutered cats. Bless you for giving them a place to stay. You can call Ferrell cat society in your area and often they will do it for free and you can get traps (will not hurt them) loaned to you for catching them. Good luck and God bless you for caring about the animals.
