We recently bought an electric fireplace that has fiberglass rocks, is there a wash or something that will make them more realistic looking?

You could always give the rocks a new coat of paint. Use a water proof latex paint. First apply a dark gray. Let it dry for about 30 minutes.

Sponge on a thin layer of medium grey paint, leaving the dark paint peeking through. Let the paint dry for 30 minutes.

Apply a very thin layer of light grey paint, also using a sponge so the other colors are visible, then let the paint dry before displaying the fake rock.

As long as they are spongy fiberglass (with pores) you can use rit dye to make it look like you used a Terra Cotta, Gray, Charcoal or Red Concrete Colorant.

Not sure if you can use the Colarant itself. I would call and ask the Manufacturer before using Concrete Colorant.

Do you have any artistic abilities use acrylic paints and paint them to look like actual rocks. Some tips https://www.ehow.com/how_6127952_paint-artificial-rock.html Or you could place real rocks in front of them covering them up-depending on how it's made.

  • Does any of it get hot at all in there? If so, you’ll have to consider heat resistant paints.
