Easy Furniture Paint Makeover

I have a piece of furniture from my grandmother who had passed, but it had seen better days. I wanted to give it a makeover to better match my coastal farmhouse decor.

First thing I did was remove the drawer and all of the hardware. Then I used Citristrip to remove the heavy stain and lacquer.

Once the Citristrip sat for the specified time, I used a scraper to get the layers of stain and varnish off. I had to repeat this process several times. I used a wash to get off any residue and sanded the piece.

I painted the piece with a darker color I had on hand. I wanted to give a weathered look, and found a crackle medium to paint on top of one coat of a lighter color.

I left the doors off because I found the inset was not real wood. I changed the drawer hardware and used a basket to hide away items.

I love the way this piece turned out! You can read more about it by clicking the link below.

Where did you find the big basket, I have been looking for one to use the same as you have, but cannot find one large enough. Your project turned out beautiful.
