Salvaged, Rusty, Industrial Spring & Barn Wood Christmas Tree

I recently saw a bucket of rusty old springs in assorted sizes at a local consignment shop. I didn't really know what I would make with them but purchased fifteen of them anyway. Here's what I came up with...
It's a Christmas in July holiday junk project from Organized Clutter!
These are some of the springs I purchased for $1 each at the consignment shop.
After brainstorming for a couple of days on what to make with the springs, I lined up the springs in the familiar Christmas tree shape. I liked the idea, and wired the spring tree onto two old barn wood scraps.
Even if it's July I dragged the old sled and skis outside for a photograph on my covered patio. Complete tutorial on my blog...

To wire the springs to the back board, did you drill holes for the wires to pass through?
