Have you tried using a stiff bristled broom and a bunch of Comet? That usually works pretty well and has the bonuses of cleaning the broom and also less bending.

If the broom doesn't work, find a stiff bristled brush that you can attach to your power drill. It makes a giant mess, but works really well. Safety goggles highly recommended.

If the problem is the grout being discolored from mildew rather than the actual tile being dirty (probably soap scum, btw) or the grout being dirty, bleach can work wonders. Use the thicker kind of bleach (sometimes marketed as gel, sometimes as thickened bleach). Paint it on with a disposable paint brush (sponge kind is fine). Let it sit a few minutes then rinse really, really well. DO NOT turn on the fan to vent until after you have painted - that only draws the fumes us into your face. DO turn on the fan as you walk out to let the bleach sit a few minutes. DO wear gloves and a mask and safety goggles.

My favorite product is "wet & forget shower". It's safe for all surfaces except marble. It takes a few weeks to work because it's a no scrub cleaner but it will also help to keep it clean. I used it to clean a no slip tub that nothing would clean. It took twice a week application after 3 weeks. Now it's sparkling clean, even the glass shower doors.

I love Lime Away! It may take scrubbing it with a brush (wear goggles/gloves!)

CLR is a great product. The trick to using it is to apply it and walk away. Twenty or thirty minutes later, come back and wipe it all off with a clean damp cloth. I have used it since I discovered it several years ago. It does cost a little more than your average bath cleaner, but so worth it.

  • This is the shower cleaner that we use to help keep grout and tiles clean and minimize the mildew - it works on kitchen grout too. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
