Use a 5 gallon plastic bucket put a few bricks/rocks to hold tree centered in bucket holds a lot of water for tree, easy to add water to it, then just cover bucket with tree skirt. Adding ice in water keeps tree fresher colder for cut tree is better no heat from vents, furnace, sun thru windows, fireplace.

  • You don't use a vase, you need a proper Christmas tree stand. Especially for a 13 foot tree.

Yes the bucket and bricks will not work for your sized tree.

Hi! When I was a child and lived out in the country, we used to cut down our own tree. My dad attached wood crosspieces on the bottom and then sat it in a large galvanized bucket that he weighed down with rocks, bricks, etc. Naomie is right though that you should use a sturdy tree stand for a tree that large and heavy.

You are welcome! Just remember that the taller and heavier the tree, the wider and heavier the base should be. We also used to anchor the tree to the wall behind it, so be careful!
