  • Is there a reason? Unless you have had construction done, then yes they may need to be cleaned out, but your contractor is to pick up the tab.

If your your system is tight and properly maintained there should be no need and you just might be spending your hard earned money unnecessarily.

    • That's fantastic! Didn't they tape off the vents while they were working? This is on their dime, not yours. Where do you live? Did you flip through the yellow pages? Google? Have you tried your states Contractors State License Board?

Do you have Coit carpet cleaners in your area? They also do duct work. If not call your HVAC co, they may know of a company.

Hi! When not in use, you should be able to use a shop vac to clean visible dust. For something more thorough, I would contact a local HVAC company for recommendations. A filter helps keep the dust out of your furnace and from it blowing into your house. Make sure to keep a clean filter in use. A blocked or dirty filter will keep your equipment from being energy efficient and could make your unit overheat.

Perfect information from Naomie. Duct cleaning is a racket and a ripoff. I worked in HVAC and duct cleaning is gravy in the contractors pocket. Gets them into the door to find "other" things wrong. Replace your filter once a month and your good.

If you had contractors do the remodels they should have covered the registers to prevent any debri from getting in the ducts, If you are having problems from the remods by all means have the ducts cleaned. But that should be good until any future remods. Hate to see people getting ripped off and HVAC guys brag about it. Boy the stories I could tell.
