How do I remove a mural on my basement wall?

There is a huge mural on a wall in my basement. My husband would like to just paint over it but I want to remove it. How do I get the mural off the wall?

Jeanie...I would just try different things on small areas to make sure it will remove and not damage wall it is on. I, however, am like your husband and would prime over it and then paint with the color of choice. That would be the easiest way to me! Good luck!
Hi Jeanie! Is it painted on? Applied in sections? One possibility, would be to get a well lit photo shot of it and get it printed out in the size you want.
If it's a wallpaper mural, it should come off like wallpaper. Try peeling a corner. Maybe it's a removable type. If not, try steaming it off. Use a plastic putty knife to remove the pieces. When it's off, the walls still need to be cleaned to remove the glue. Use a sponge to wash the walls with water and vinegar until the walls stop feeling slimy.
