Best way: Take door down. Strip old finish with something like citristrip and clean up following product instructions. Sand well. Refinish. Put something like wet newspaper or petroleum jelly along the glass before adding new finish to make clean up easier.
Easier way: Sand lightly and paint with a couple coats of good exterior paint.
Paint a fun color! Sand off sheen, prime with exterior oil based primer, lightly sand, paint 2 coats of quality exterior semi gloss latex paint.
Paint.

I agree either strip it or paint it. Painting would be slightly less work, but if it's really a solid wood door, it may be worth it to strip and re-stain.
I had a professional co come out and refinish my door on the spot took them about 4 hrs from start to finish. It looks as good as the day we bought the house. That was 3 years ago and it still looks great. One of my neighbors had her door painted and it looks good too and that was 5 year ago. It's just a mater of preference.
