How can I control erosion in my yard?

When I added on to my house several years ago, they did not grade the yard correctly so it would drain. Through the years, I’ve terraced the yard which helped some but didn’t eliminate the problem. The yard is now higher than my patio which causes it to flood with rain. I’ve had s Dutch dug 2 places, olanted various things etc. I’m now going to have concrete poured to raise the patio. I don’t have the money to keep fighting this and my back and knees have given out so can’t continue hauling wall blocks and dirt.

Hi. I hate to tell you this, but you need to have a topography engineer come in and make an evaluation on how to slope, dig and remove to get the water to flow correctly around your home. Water standing around your foundation can cause it to shift. It's worth the price to have this done right.

Put in a French drain. Dig a trench around the house fill within 4 inches of the top with gravel and then soil or just fill with gravel. The water will drain down through the gravel and soak into the ground
